History and Location
St Cuthbert's is a Cor et Lumen Christi Community and retreat
centre on the edge of the Lake District National Park, in
Wigton, Cumbria. The 150-year-old convent was the first building
in the old county of Cumberland built for a religious community
following the dissolution at the reformation and retains much
of its historic character. Around half an hour's drive to
Keswick, St Cuthbert's is an ideal location for retreat and
relaxation. It is within easy reach of the Skiddaw fells,
with many beautiful and quiet places for walking nearby. Only
fifteen minutes from the sea; there is plenty for families
to do.
Facilities
Our conference room is an attractive venue, offering the latest
technology, with exposed red sandstone walls and wood burning
stoves. Our garden room is a comfortable, bright room with
sofas and a kitchenette. Both rooms are used by the Community
to host our groups and events. They are also used regularly
by a number of groups from the local community.
We have an intimate oratory where the Blessed
Sacrament is reserved, providing a sanctuary for private prayer.
We currently have accommodation for up to 60 people residentially.
Community
Our Community in Cumbria is growing all the time. In our meetings
and relationships with each other we follow the model of the
early church described in Acts 2, 42-43. Members of the Community
and Fellowship receive ongoing formation and we have a committed
group of people who are growing in relationship with God and
each other.
